Lisa Christine Holmes, 54, mother of Cooper Holmes, died Wednesday March 23, 2016 at her home in Herndon, VA after a courageous bout with ovarian cancer. Born in Manchester, CT she was the daughter of the late James and Yvette Holmes. Lisa graduated from East Catholic High School, Manchester, CT in 1979. She studied nursing at Salve Regina College, Newport, RI where the mission was "to be your best self". When she graduated she worked at Hartford Hospital. She then went to work at Manchester Memorial Hospital where she was a nurse manager and a coordinator for community health programs. She went on to Georgetown University where she completed the Nurse Practitioner program. She worked with outpatient mental health, homeless and uninsured through mobile medical care, inpatient psychiatric care , urgent care at NightTime Pediatrics in Rockville, MD, and finally in private practice at an internal medicine practice also in Rockville. Besides her son, she leaves behind her sister Monica Despins and brother-in-law William of Oak Hill, VA, her brother James Holmes and sister-in-law Karen of South Windsor, CT, her nephews Christopher Despins, Stephen Despins, Nicholas Despins, James Holmes, and Daniel Holmes. She is survived by many loving friends and family. As a consummate caregiver she touched many lives and will be missed. Friends and family may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street, Manchester, CT on Monday from 5:00 -8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday March 29th at 10:00 at St James Catholic Church, 896 Main Street Manchester, CT followed by interment at St. James Cemetery.
