Obituary of Edward Williams

Edward A. Williams, D.V.M. of Lebanon, CT died peacefully at home March 9, 2016,with family at his side. Ted, as he was known to family and friends, was born March 2, 1936 the son of the late Edward Armson Williams, Sr. and Edna Cole Williams. He attended the University of Connecticut and then graduated with a B.S. from the Honors College at Michigan State University. He then went on to Veterinary School at MSU graduating in 1961 with honors. Ted enjoyed the fraternity of his brothers at Theta Xi while in college and at reunions. Ted leaves his wife of 32 years, Cheryl Heitman Williams, their daughter Courtney E. Williams, and sons from a previous marriage Thomas Williams, his wife Jantje and their son Miles, Ted Williams, Scott Williams and daughter Edna Williams. He also leaves his beloved sister Patricia Williams and her children Tricia Carlton, Bradford Carlton and wife Lorraine Los, and Susan Donnelly and son Justin, Cheryl's brothers Richard Heitman his son Ben, Raymond Heitman and his son Ian and wife Darcie and sister Beth Heitman Doolan, her husband Troy and their children Shaunna and Lucas. Dr. Williams established the Manchester Veterinary Clinic in 1962 growing the practice to include four veterinarians and building a larger clinic on Spencer Street. He cared deeply for his clients and enjoyed the companionship of his own dogs. During his career as a practicing Veterinarian he was called to consult, in conjunction with the University of Connecticut Micro-chemistry Laboratory, for the State of CT Division of Special Revenue on the development of regulatory standards for the protection of racing greyhounds. Dr. Williams served as the Chairman of the CVMA Ethics Committee from 1985-1989 as well as The Hartford County Veterinary Medical Association as President in 1973. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Association of Equine Practitioners. His mentoring assisted many veterinarians as they began their careers and own practices. In 1989 he sold his practice and began a career of consulting and marketing Veterinary practices as Professional Practice Sales. He served in the CT National Guard and the United States Army Reserve, was a member of The Aircraft Owners and Pilot's Association and was active in local politics serving on the Boards of Finance and Education in Hebron, CT. He and his wife, Cheryl and their daughter Courtney own Golden Oaks Farm where they have raised Thoroughbred racehorses. Ted enjoyed flying, boating, fishing and loved his time spent on Gansy Island in Lake Winnipesaukee with family and friends. A memorial service will be held at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 13th.
