Obituary of Mary Jane Murray
It is with great sadness the Murray family shares the news of the passing of Mary Jane.
Mary Jane (Footit) Murray was the beloved wife of the late George Francis Murray, mother to Pat and Beth, mother-in-law to Jodie and Mark, gram to Jennifer and John and meme to Tyler, Ryan and Shannon. She was predeceased by her daughter Maureen, son James and brother James Footit of Middletown. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Dolly Footit and many nieces and nephews, especially Saranne and Jack Foley, Kathy Murray and Kathy Kowalsky.
Born in Middletown to the late James and Cecelia (Burke) Footit, Mary Jane attended Middletown High School and went to St. Francis School of Nursing in Hartford, graduating in 1950. She met George while taking care of his father at the VA Hospital in Rocky Hill, married and moved to George's hometown in Manchester in 1953 to live and raise a family.
Mary Jane was a member of the Women's Circle and St. Francis Alumni. MJ was past president of the Ladies of St. James. She and George were active in the St. James Parish community and the East Catholic Parents Club.
She was a school nurse for the Manchester Board of Education for over 30 years, retiring from St. James School in 1995. MJ loved her flower gardens, knitting for the Prayer Shawl ministry, knitting black slippers for the nuns, baking fruitcakes for friends around the world and fantastic family feasts. She will be forever missed.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 4th, at 10:15 a.m. from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St., Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Church, 896 Main St., Manchester. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manchester.
