Obituary of H. John Malone MD

H. John Malone, M.D. died peacefully Friday, January 23rd, 2015 in the home and town he loved. He was 92 years young. Born August 11, 1922 in New Britain, CT, John was the only child of Harold John and Margaret Meehan Malone. Beginning with Robert Louis Stevenson, as a child he began a lifelong love of reading. He graduated from Duke University in 1944 then pursued further education at the University of Connecticut Graduate School while serving his country state-side. He then graduated from the University of Vermont Medical School in 1949. After his residency at Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital in New York City, he opened his pediatric practice in Manchester, CT in 1953. He lovingly devoted the next 47 years of his life to his pediatric practice. To him, Pediatricians encompassed both the physical and mental aspects of child rearing. He believed in discussing discipline, courtesy, working well at home and school, and in volunteerism. He loved his pediatric families and considered them the "salt of the earth". He married the love of his life, Beverly Robinson, in 1950 in Concord, New Hampshire. They recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. John and Beverly Malone made every effort to raise their six children to be positive, hardworking, community and family focused citizens with lifelong loves of special places and simple pleasures. While residing at "84" and being Chief of Pediatrics and Chief of Staff at Manchester Memorial Hospital, he was an active member of the following organizations: American Medical Association, CT State Medical Society, Hartford County and Manchester Medical Societies, Manchester Historical Society, Cheney Brothers National Historical District, Pitkin Glass Works, Knights of Columbus, the Republican Town Committee, and MENSA. He especially enjoyed serving two terms on the Manchester Board of Education and being a volunteer reader for 15 years in the Manchester Public School System. Finally, an award that meant a tremendous amount to him, was the ConnectiCare Golden Heart Award for exceptional family satisfaction from a Pediatrician. In addition to his spouse, Beverly, Dr. Malone leaves behind a large and loving family. Meg and Peter Quish and their children Courtney (and her husband Dan and children Charlie and Finn), Patrick, and Hadley; Sean and Kathy Malone and their son Sean Michael; Jennifer and John Healy and their son, Thomas; Laura and George Loftus and their children Taylor (and her husband Jeff and daughter Georgia) and Christopher; Christopher and Kim Malone and their children Bailey and Chad; and Prudence and Bob Lange and their sons Spencer and Tyler; Brother-in-law Westly Robinson and his wife Georgianne and their daughter, Julianne. Dr. Malone was also predeceased by his infant son, Chad, and his grandson Timothy Malone.
