Obituary of Edward T. Kelly
Dr. Edward T. Kelly III, Ph.D., 68, devoted husband and father, passed away Tuesday night surrounded by his family at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.
Ed was born in Cambridge, MA to the late Edward T. Kelly, Jr. and Gertrude Kelly. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret "Peggy" Kelly, his son, Dr. Edward T. Kelly IV, DMD, and his daughter, Allison Kelly, CPA, all of Manchester. Ed graduated from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy where he received his B.S. in Pharmacy in 1967 and his Master's in Pharmacy in 1969. Ed was a registered pharmacist and practiced while he attended graduate school. While at MCP he was a member of the Kappa Psi Fraternity. He subsequently received his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in 1974. Upon graduation from OSU, Ed taught for 28 years at the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy. Upon retirement, he was made Associate Professor Emeritus at UCONN. While at UCONN, Ed was the first department chair of Pharmacy Practice and served as faculty advisor to the Kappa Psi Fraternity, UCONN Chapter. He published various research articles and book chapters in his field of Pharmaceutical Marketing and Management.
After retiring from UCONN he returned to his alma mater, and taught as a Professor at MCP in Worcester, for ten years and served as Assistant Dean and chair of the curriculum committee. Locally, Ed was very involved in the community, volunteering as a soccer coach for the Manchester Soccer Club. Ed was co-president of the Martin School PTA and Chairman of the St. James School Board. He was also on the Manchester Road Race Committee and was in charge of the Press Room for the race. Ed also served as the District 1 Secretary of the National Board Association of Pharmacy.
His family would like to thank the numerous doctors and nurses for their compassion and care. Ed's family would like to extend a special thanks to dear friends Tom and Kathy, whose love and assistance provided great comfort in the past two years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday (November 9th) at 12:00 p.m. at St. James Church 896 Main St. Manchester, followed by burial in East Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester on Friday from 5-8 p.m.
