Obituary of Phyllis McDonough
Phyllis Anne McDonough, 73, of Manchester, CT left this life on January 23rd, 2012 after a short battle with Cancer at Manchester Memorial Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents, Leopold and Elinor (LaRochelle) Langlois, her beloved step-mother Therese (Leduc) Langlois, her brother Victor Langlois and her loving husband of 30 years Owen J. McDonough, JR.
Phyllis was born in Southbridge, MA on January 4, 1939. She graduated from Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing, in Worcester, MA where she met her husband and moved to Manchester, Ct to raise a family in 1960. She worked as a Registered Nurse for most of her life until she retired in 2005 from West Side Multicare Center. She was an exceptionally dedicated and conscientious nurse. She had a unique way of making the people she cared for feel special. She enjoyed her family and friends, going on trips, visits to the casino, gardening, the outdoors and living life in general. She fought a long hard battle with Parkinson's Disease for the last eight years but never stopped smiling or laughing. She will be greatly missed by all who ever knew her.
She is survived by her 3 children, Owen J. McDonough III of Manchester, Ct, Karen A. Hewitt and her husband Bruce of St Augustine, Florida and Gary M. McDonough and his wife Kathy of Windsor Locks, Ct. She will be missed greatly by her 3 grandchildren Jessica Murray and her husband Ben, Teresa Thomas and her husband Jayson and Kyle McDonough and her 4 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind 3 sisters and a brother. Constance Carey and her husband Kevin, Judith Stevens and her husband David, Natalie Langlois and David Langlois and his wife JoAnn as well as many nieces and nephews. Phyllis enjoyed her last 14 years of life with her loving companion Harry Barrett, his children and their spouses: Harry and Angel Barrett, Sean and Matilda Barrett, Kevin Barrett, Katherine and Clayton Theriault, Susan and Jim Fogarty and Darlene and Earl DeGray and many grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 8:30AM to 10:30 AM at John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St, Manchester, Ct. A funeral service will follow at 11:00AM at Church of the Assumption, 29 South Adams St. Manchester, Ct followed by a Christian Burial at St James Catholic Cemetery, 368 Broad St, Manchester, Ct. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or the American Cancer Society.
We would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and aids in 2 East at MMH and also North Central Hospice, especially the hospice volunteers who were wonderful.
