Obituary of Zoraida Perez

Zoraida “Zory” Perez, 68, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 9, 2021, at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut surrounded by her children.

She is survived by her son Daniel R. Perez; her daughter Emily M. Perez-Smith and her husband Joseph; her grandchildren: Damien J. Smith, Nixon D. Perez, Aliyana A. Smith and A.J. Roman Smith; her four sisters: Awilda Fraguada and her husband Esteban, Aida L. Reyes, Iris Maysonet and her husband Benjamin Sr., Nilsa Taylor and her husband Dwayne; her four brothers: Marcial Reyes Jr. and his wife Felicia, Blas G. Reyes, Victor M. Reyes, and Roberto Reyes and his wife Kenia; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Roman Perez, Jr., and her parents, Marcial Reyes Sr. and Aida Rivera Reyes.

Zoraida was born on December 14, 1952 in Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico. She was the oldest of nine children. She moved to the Bronx, New York when she was seven years old in 1959. Zoraida graduated from Grace Dodge Vocational High School in 1972, where she acquired her secretarial skills. She was an executive secretary for Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, New York. Zoraida left her career to raise her family. While raising her family, she built on her skills in her seamstress work which included making beautiful dresses. Especially wedding dresses – which she loved to bling out. Zoraida had that talent from within and it didn't stop until the dress sang to her, she was a true visionary! She also enjoyed cooking and catering for many large functions. She also had a joy in decorating for any occasion. She was a people pleaser who took pride and joy serving those who asked for her help. Zoraida will be greatly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited on Saturday, August 14, 2021 to the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street, Manchester CT at 9AM for a period of visitation prior to the 10AM funeral service. Burial will follow in Mt. St Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield, CT.

The family also asks that if you do plan to attend, for the safety of all those around, please wear a mask.
