Esperanza posted a condolence

My deepest condolences to Perez, Perez-Smith and Reyes Family. May God continue to strengthen and comfort us all. She was a warrior for both God and family. A perfect example of a virtuous woman. She will be missed. Her legacy lives on. “..the peace of God which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Phil 4:7.

It’s incredibly hard to try and sum up someone who did so much for so many during her life, but I’ll do my best.
To me she was always Titi Zori. A woman of small stature with a tremendous presence wherever she went. While my Tio Roman was usually the biggest guy in the room, my Titi always had the biggest heart. No matter if it was at home, at church, or anywhere else she always expressed love and care for the people around her.
I can recall her generosity being demonstrated time after time. She would cook for hundreds of people as easily as if she were cooking for her own family at home. She would make wedding dresses by hand, spend countless hours to ensure that every detail was perfect. She loved a good party and would often take the time to decorate so that even the simplest place seemed special and exciting. Many times, Zoraida could be found doing all three things at once - cooking, sewing, and decorating - just to ensure that someone’s day would be extra special.
I smile now recalling that on a couple of those occasions she put me to work.
Our family moved around quite a bit when I was younger, but Roman and Zoraida never hesitated to visit. On one trip, she arrived with a ginormous caldera in addition to her luggage. I reminded her that we were not starving, but she giggled and smiled in her special way as she said, “I have to take care of my babies…”. And that pretty much defines much of who she was and how much she took care of others.
Her joy was infectious, especially whenever she got the giggles and exerted her signature laugh.
During one of our family trips back to the Bronx, someone got the idea to play a “game” that involved two people going upstairs and then one by one bringing other people up to share a “secret”. When it was my turn to go upstairs the secret was revealed to me - a playful slap to the face. Well the next person I brought up to join the group was my younger brother and the person he brought up next was Zoraida. Well you can imagine what happened. My brother revealed the secret slap to the face and was greeted instantly with a slap of equal measure from Titi who shouted, “Respetarme!!!” When it became clear to her that the slap was in fact a joke, Zoraida forgave my poor brother and laughed harder than anyone else that night. (Don’t worry…my brother got lots of extra treats from Titi the remainder of the trip)
Zoraida was a Prayer Warrior. She loved the Lord and she wore it as a badge of honor constantly. No matter how small or great the need, she never hesitated to intercede and pray for someone. I can recall that even when Roman passed away and we were attending his funeral with our kids she paused her grief on the spot and prayed, thanking God for them and offering blessings. Selfless love.
She loved the Lord.
She loved her husband.
She loved her family.
We are deeply grateful that she now gets to be with the Lord and with the love of her life, Roman.
Our deepest sadness and condolences are with Dan and Emily and the rest of her family. Zoraida was a truly special woman and there is nothing that can replace her loss. Her memory will live on through the many lives she touched.

We met in the 70s where Zory and Papo and my wife and I all sang in the choir. She had a wonderful disposition and a beautiful voice along with a contagious laugh. Zory loved the Lord and always gave him her best. She’s left us to soon but she’s home.
