Words cannot explain how much I miss my Vavo. But as Auntie Toni said, just look in the mirror because I will see her. I love you Vavo, always and forever.

To Our Friend & Brother, Sean, Our hearts were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of your mother, Mrs. Leona Quental. While we did not know her, we have both lost our mothers and know how difficult this time of transition can be. We pray that you, along with your entire family, will draw much strength from the fact that so many people love you and are praying for you. Moreover, we hope that the time that you spend together over Thanksgiving will help to heal the hurt and fill the void that you now feel. Shalom and call us when you need us. Alonzo & Richel Johnson

As a man of many words, I find myself speechless at this moment in time. I simply cannot find the words to express my true sorrow for your family's loss. Your mom was always so nice to me. Every time I walked through the door she made me feel like her long lost son. I have always felt the goodness of a someone's life is ultimately measured by the amount of people weeping by their bedside. If that is true, then clearly your mom was one of the finest souls ever to walk this earth and I know for sure, that she was welcomed into heaven with open arms and that now she truly sits at the foot of the Lord. Our very deepest condolences, The Pellegrino Family

It was 12:10 a.m. on January 3, 1981. We arrived on Arcellia Drive after attending our 25th wedding anniversary party. The street was lit up like Times Square .. lit by the fire, lights from fire trucks and a cold winter moon. We absorbed the scene in disbelief as the firemen proceeded with their work, now that they saw that our sons were safely with us. Some neighbors had gathered. Mrs. Quental approached, saying, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going!" She hugged me, she clutched my hands and we prayed together. She warmed my heart. I remember it so clearly .. a beautiful and God-fearing women. My deepest sympathy to all her family from all of mine. With love, Janet Forzley

"Don't act like that coat!"
"You went to Riverside with the Church."
"Girls....you're gonna wanna go someplace...."
"Ah, KeeDeetha"
"Coo-deesh!"
And my all-time favorite story: 32 yrs ago, when Chuck walked in to "697" to meet Ma & Dad for the first time he was wearing a shirt, jeans and sneakers. He knocked at the back door, and someone yelled to come in. One of us was sitting at the kitchen table, someone else was at the sink running water, Shannon was trying to sneak out the door & book - - and Ma was standing and staring at Chuck. She kept wiping her eyes like she was trying to wake up. Finally said to me: "Why is he wearing THAT?"
I nudged Dad and kinda gave him the eye...and then, normalcy took over. Introductions made, etc.
Well, much later, after we got married, Ma told me that when Chuck had walked in that first night, all she could see was Chuck wearing a tuxedo. (That's why she kept rubbing her eyes & shaking her head. She couldn't see the shirt/jeans.) Later on that evening, she thought about it and she kept quiet.
11 months later & our wedding plans have been turned upside-down about 1,000x, including having the tuxedo rental place mess up the order - twice! They never did get the tuxedos we requested, so we just went with what was on hand. And, YES, it is true. The tuxedo that Chuck ended up wearing was the EXACT same one that Ma "saw". The same color, the same style, the same cut, even down to the teeny fringe on the cuffs of the shirt.
Ma was something else, huh?

To my "darling" (as you would say it) of a Vavo, It is surreal that you are not here on this beautiful earth anymore, but I can say that I cherished each and every moment I spent with you for the last eighteen years of my life. We had a relationship that I am so grateful to have shared with someone- up until our last conversation via Facetime we were teasing each other. That fire you had inside of you I will only continue to emulate in my life. I am so thankful for the countless times you told me you were proud of me, and the reassurance you gave to me whenever I came to you. I will never forget surprising you and telling you I learned the Hail Mary and Our Father in Portuguese, and then waking up at six in the morning to do the Rosary with you every time I slept over. I am so happy you are finally with your mom, dad, Auntie Ida, and Voo. Keep watching over me everyday. I love you.
