Obituary of Philip D. LaFond

Philip D. LaFond, 94, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (January 15, 2013) at Home Hospice surrounded by his family. He was born in Westbrook, Maine on January 12, 1919. Philip, known as "Phil" to his many friends, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Chemical Engineering, and worked most of his professional career as an engineer with Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford. He was a World War II Veteran serving as a Naval Officer in the Pacific. He was an accomplished pianist and spent many years after retiring from Pratt, tuning and repairing pianos. He married his wife, Margaret, in 1943, was a long time resident of Manchester and a parishioner of St. James Chruch. Philip was predeceased in March of last year by his wife of 69 years, Margaret, and is survived by his sons Peter A. LaFond and his wife Judith of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Richard LaFond and his wife Anne of Lakewood, Colorado, as well as his daughters, Christine LaFond, and her husband Bill Ferraioli of Manchester, Joan Roast and her husband Rick of So. Portland, Maine, and Judith Fournier and her husband Len of Nashua, N.H. He was also predeceased in 1990 by his daughter Susan, to whom his wife Margaret donated a kidney. He also leaves nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are being coordinated by the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St., Manchester. There will be an 11 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Church 896 Main Street, Manchester on Tuesday (January 22nd) followed by a graveside funeral service at East Cemetery in Manchester.
