Obituary of John McCartan
John T. McCartan, 94, of Manchester, the husband of the late Margaret (Kershaw) McCartan died Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born in Manchester, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Gill) McCartan. John had received his Master's Degree from Fordham University, was a US Army veteran of World War II and had retired from Hamilton Standard after 43 years of service as a Service Engineer. He had volunteered for 25 years at Manchester Memorial Hospital. John was an avid traveler and runner, and was a founding member of the Silk City Striders. He is survived by his sons John T. "Jack" McCartan II of Manchester, and Timothy P. McCartan of Southbridge, MA. Besides his wife he was predeceased by his brother, Joseph McCartan, Jr. Funeral service will be held on Friday (November 18th) at 9:15 am from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at the Church of the Assumption, 27 Adams St. South, Manchester. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call at the funeral home TODAY (November 17th) from 5-8 pm.
