Rita and Family, Truly saddened by SgtMaj Home's departure. All of those who served and worked with him over a long lifetime are deeply indebted to his leadership. Particularly so those of us Vietnam Marines with SgtMaj Home in HMM 262. One situation was when we had a number of unexplained CH-46 accidents and there was some concern expressed by flight crew members. Well the next day the first CH-46 leaving the flight line on a mission had SgtMaj Homer seated behind the portside .50 caliber machine gun. All of us in the squadron owe a lot to good combat leadership and we are proud to recall SgtMaj Home's contributions. Greg Corliss

Dear Claudia and Family. I am extremely proud to have served with your father in Vietnam in 1966-1967. I was also happy to see him and you at the 2000 reunion in Washington, DC. He will forever live in my heart and someday will join him at the gates, where he will be standing watch. I am very sad to hear of his passing. He lived a good and full life, and I am proud to have known him when I was yet to become a man, he taught myself and many others what it meant to be a Marine. He was a fair and caring man for many. RIP SgtMajor. The Flying Herman.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the Home family. I served under Top in Viet Nam in 1967. We were standing a Sparow Hawk mission one day and my gunner suddenly became unavailable when we got the word to launch the mission. As I was assisting in starting up my helicopter for the flight, Top came charging across the landing pad with his flight gear on. He volunteered to act as the gunner on this flight. As we were lifting off he refused to take over as Crew Chief on the flight, as was his right due to rank. He told me "No, that's your job son. I'm your gunner today". I never forgot that and I never forgot Top, nor will I ever. God Bless. See you again! Gene Kruger HMM-262 '66-'67

Claudia please accept our condolences on the passing of your Dad. Ralph was our Daddy too when he brought a bunch of kids to fight a war in Vietnam, he was so much respected by all he led. I remember seeing him for the first time since 1967 at the reunion on Pensacola, he knew and remembered me which shocked me after all the men he had led through the years. Then we met again at the reunion in DC where I also met you, I'm sorry I never got to meet your Mom who he loved so. We'll all meet again at the gates of Heaven and he'll be standing tall to greet us. Knowing people like him are there to welcome us in makes it seem like a pleasant journey. RIP my Brother! Dear Rita, Claudia, Matthew, Dan and Pam: I am so sorry for your loss. Ralph was a great friend, good man and a wonderful human being. I will miss the military stories and talks we had when we would work in the yards. He loved his family and was a great friend. Ralph will truly be missed. May God give each of you the strength you need during this difficult time in your lives. My deepest sympathies, Phil
