Jack was a very special person. He, my husband-John Hoye, and Gene Millerick were referred to in the State Legislature as “The White Hair Caucus”. The three of them not only had that feature in common but also cherished each other’s friendship. As an illustration of the type of man Jack was, when my husband John was defeated for his third term, Jack was the only person who arrived-the next day- at our house to offer support and encouragement. That act of kindness typified his character. He will be sorely missed. June and John Hoye

Jack was such a nice man. He was a pleasure to deal with as a reporter and just to see around town. His was a life worth celebrating.

Dear Sean, Peter, Michael, Kevin and Susan, I was so sad to hear about your Dad. He was such a special person and I always loved the chance to be around him. My children have fond memories of visiting your home and playing games with Uncle Jack and I remember our summer trips to Connecticut and how they were never complete until we visited with Aunt Betty and Uncle Jack. It is extremely difficult to lose a parent and you will all be in my thoughts and prayers. With love, Cathy

We remember our cousin Jack as a funny, boisterous, teasing man who was also one of the most sincere, giving his time and efforts to others. He will be sorely missed. We remember deep political discussions where Jack would be the only one on our side but remained always the strong and fiercest of loving cousins, even with the cousins who didn't agree with us. He has always been thought of with a warm smile and even more so now that he joins all those indefatigable Hegartys in heaven. Please let us know if there is a special place where we can make a donation in his name.

As an advocate for the civil rights of people with disabilities, I had the privilege of working with Jack in his role as a legislator. He thought deeply about issues of fairness and projected a profound sense of respect for all people. Jack instinctively knew that communities are stronger and better when they make efforts to include everyone, and he worked hard to make that happen. He really "got it". Jack will be very much missed. But, he leaves behind a wonderful legacy of contribution and community-building.

Dear Carol and Family, I am deeply saddened to learn of Jack's passing. He was a dear man who made me smile every time I was with him. I always admired his fierce devotion to human services especially when it came to providing for or protecting children from the harsh realities of poverty. I guess that is what I will forever remember as that is where I first met him when I worked for Manchester Social Services. That and his love of Eleanor's brownies. ;) Jack was such a gentle man, a voice of reason in chaos and his innate kindness that always accompanied his advocacy for those who needed him. His life made a difference and he will be deeply missed. With Respect and shared sorrow. Beth

When I became president of MCC in 1987, Jack told me, straightforwardly, that young children would always come first for him ... and community colleges maybe second. As a citizen, I had to agree with him, and for almost thirty years I have honored his integrity and valued his judgment. He was one of the most honest politicians I have ever met, and it was always a joy to encounter him when my wife Linda and I would walk in the neighborhood. Everyone trusted Jack, and, for sure, he made the world a better place. His family can look back at a life well lived.
