Obituary of Richard William Hood
Richard W. Hood, Jr., 98, of West Suffield, the beloved husband of the late Lucille (Rozman) Hood, died on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Heritage Hall in Agawam, MA. Born in Hartford he was the son of the late Richard W. Hood, Sr. and Amelia (Muller) Hood, he grew up on a farm in Bloomfield and graduated #1 in his class from Bloomfield High School. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Richard loved camping at Lake Winnipesaukee, gardening both vegetables and flowers, and anything to do with words, poetry, writing and word puzzles. He was also a musical man, who was very good at singing, and playing the harmonica and accordion. He was an avid UConn Women's Basketball fan and New York Yankees fan. A loving father, he is survived by his daughters, Sandra Viot of Vernon, Paticia Kenny and her husband Brian of Ellington, and Lucille Miller and her husband Scott of West Suffield; his grandchildren William Viot and his wife Jennifer, Andrew Viot and wife Leslie, Kenneth Viot and his wife Tara, Brian P. Kenny and his wife Sarah, Patrick Kenny and his wife Myoungho, Brendan Kenny and his wife Noelle, and Jesse Miller; 15 great-grandchildren; his sister Barbara Anderson of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 8th, at 11:00 a.m. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center Street Manchester followed by burial with military honors in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111, a local animal shelter or the charity of the donors' choice.
