Frank Philopena

Obituary of Frank J. Philopena

Frank Joseph Philopena III, 55, of Manchester, quietly passed away on June 18, 2012 in Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 1, 1956 in New London, Connecticut to Lois and Frank Philopena Jr. Frank graduated from Manchester High School in 1975, where he met the love of his life and future wife, LouAnn Downey. They were married on November 19, 1982 surrounded by close friends and family. Shortly after, they welcomed their two daughters into the world. Franks' large wealth of knowledge led him to many different trades; among his favorites were painting houses and working at a casino in Arizona, where he lived for 6 years. Franks' parents sparked his interest in Arizona and it forever remained a truly cherished place in his heart. There, he acquired a deep love and respect for Native Americans and their histories. Pemaquid Point, Maine was also very special to him. Sitting on the rocks and listening to the waves crashing around him was his most peaceful place imaginable. Frank (better known as Mr. Fun to his girls) treasured music, was a phenomenal cook, could fix almost anything and would have played golf every single day if given the chance. If you ever watched Jeopardy with him, you would have walked away wishing you had half the knowledge that he had acquired. He loved life and lived every minute of his to its' absolute fullest. As his beloved sister Catherine once said, the air changed when Frank walked into a room. Frank is survived by his wife of 30 years, LouAnn and their daugthers, Caroline Philopena and fiancé Benjamin LeRoy, and Meghan Philopena-Regoli and her husband Luca. He is also survived by his father Frank Joseph Philopena Jr., his two sisters and four brothers, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Frank joins his mother, Lois, who he has missed more than words can ever convey. The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses and staff members that cared for him at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center and Yale New Haven Hospital. Their kindness shall not be soon forgotten. Services will be held at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home in Manchester, CT on Monday, June 25 from 4 to 7, with a brief memorial at 7 o'clock. All that knew and loved Frank are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Tolland Animal Control where Frank had recently rescued his dearly loved dog, Bob.
