Obituary of Irma Czerwinski

Irma I. (Accornero) Czerwinski, 91 of Manchester/Windsor, beloved wife of Joseph Czerwinski passed away on July 2, 2016, after a long and brave battle with Alzheimer's disease. She is happy to be finally joining her husband in heaven. Born in Manchester, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Caviglia) Accornero. Irma graduated with honors from Manchester High School in June 1942. During World War II, Irma served as a nurse's aide in the Connecticut Citizens Defense Corps. Irma was married to Joseph Czerwinski who became her greatest asset, closest advisor and love of her life on Flag Day, June 14, 1947. They celebrated 66 years of marriage until the passing of her late husband in December 2013. In the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s Irma was a proud housewife who served as a wonderful role model, moral compass and opinionated mother for her children and family. She instilled in others a sense of compassion and care for all whether family or new found friend or old acquaintance. She enjoyed summer trips to the beaches of Rocky Neck and Cape Cod with her family. She loved her bus trips to New York City to enjoy Broadway shows and specials at Radio City. From a community service perspective she was actively involved with her children's education as room mother and school volunteer and coordinated and supervised activities as a volunteer with the Manchester Senior Citizens group and the Manchester Recreation department. Once all of her children were grown, she accepted a position in 1977 as Independent Living Skills Aide with the Regional Occupational Training Center (ROTC) for the Manchester Public School system. Over a 15 year career here, she positively impacted the lives of many teenaged students, faculty members and administrators. During this period Irma was actively involved with her six grandchildren, all who won't forget the love and direction from and extent of their personal adventures with their grandmother. Irma and husband Joe enjoyed traveling during their lifetimes with trips to California, Florida, the southeast, Italy along with one of her favorite destinations Newport, Rhode Island. Irma (and her late husband Joe) were longtime communicants of St. Bridget Church in Manchester where they made many long lasting friendships. A lifelong resident of Manchester, she will never be forgotten by old friends and new, and the impact she had on their lives. She and her husband had a gift in putting people they met at ease and made them feel special. Their home was a center of warmth and love. Irma is survived by her brother Joseph and sister-in-law Gail Accornero of Kissimmee, Florida, three loving children, Joseph Czerwinski, Jr. of Exeter, RI, Gail Sroka and her husband Edwin of Columbia, and John Czerwinski and his wife Diane of Rockfall; her grandchildren Christopher, Jonathan, Aaron, Joel, Alex and Eric; 7 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Enas (Accornero) Grace and Daria (Accornero) Porter as well as her youngest daughter, Lynn Czerwinski. Calling hours will be held at the John F.
