Obituary of James Marvin

James C. Marvin, 25, of Coventry died on Friday ( June 1, 2012) surrounded by his family at Hartford Hospital, the result of the onset of renal failure. He was born in Manchester, September 18, 1986 the son of John W. Marvin of Coventry and Deborah (Hawkes) Marvin of Bolton. He was known for his always present smile, a great sense of humor and as some would describe him as " a giant kid in a man's body". He had a tremendous passion for all outdoor activities and a great love for understanding weather conditions and the forecasting involved with that knowledge. James was a 2004 graduate of Coventry High School. He was an accomplished Bag Piper and played with the Regional Police & Fire Pipe Band. At the tender age of seventeen he enrolled at the US Navy Great Lakes Training Center and went onto graduate as an air crewman at the Pensacola, FL Naval Station in 2005. After leaving the US Navy he joined the National Guard in July of 2007 and served as a Specialist with the 102nd Alpha Company in Norwalk. In 2008 he graduated from the Class of 2008-01, Hartford Police Academy and has served in the Patrol Division of the Hartford Police Department. In 2009 James was activated by the CT National Guard and served in the Enduring Freedom Campaign in Afghanistan where he was highly decorated. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 58 in Topeka, KA. Besides his parents he is survived by his brother Jeffrey T. Marvin and his fiancée Meghann L. McInerney of Cambridge, MA and was predeceased by his brother Officer John Hawkes Marvin, who died in January. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents Willard and Louise Marvin of Manchester, his maternal grandparents Harlene Fairbanks of Coventry and her husband David Fairbanks, and Clifford L. Hawkes Jr. and his wife Beverly of Houlton, MA, his uncles and aunts, Chris and Diane Marvin of Manchester, and Tom and Laurie Marvin of Coventry, and his aunt Linda H. Krob and her husband Allan "Skip" of Manchester, his nephew Jack Everett Marvin and Jack's mother Scotti. James was also a loyal and loving relative and friend to numerous cousins, friends, fellow officers and many lifelong Coventry friends. He was predeceased by his great-grandparents Grayce and Harlan Wallbeoff. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester on Tuesday (June 5th) from 3-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1 pm at South United Methodist Church 1226 Main St. Manchester followed by a procession for burial with military honors in New Cemetery, Coventry.
