Obituary of David H. Comins

David Hannon Comins, 85, formerly of Manchester, CT and Richmond, VA, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016 in West Hartford, CT. Born in Rockville, CT, to James Edward and Claire (Hannon) Comins on September 12, 1930. Attended South Manchester High School and graduated from Monson Academy and the University of Connecticut, BA, Business. David worked in a variety of fields in his long career; a traveling salesman for Dixie products and Patent medicines with a huge territories in the Northeast, an insurance agent for the Labonne Insurance Company. He volunteered many hours for several civic efforts in Manchester, including the Jaycees. At the peak of his career, he was the Vice President of Finance for MediCo Associates, where he arranged complex commercial financing deals for nursing homes and built a nursing home in Darien, CT. He spent a number of years as an independent commercial real estate broker and developer in CT and VA. He also worked as a mortgage originator at McCue Mortgage Company. David would most like to be remembered as an inventor. He successfully worked up until the last weeks of his life on his invention that dramatically increased the efficiency of electric propulsion fans. His mind was quick and ever busy, until the end. Always curious about the minutia of his family members, he had a lot of questions. Some of us valued his advice, dearly. David is mourned by three children, Donna and Ronald Pike of West Harford, Patrick and Tricia Comins of Meriden and Julie Comins of Manchester, four grandchildren, Amber and Steven Hodska, Jordan Pike, Maxson and Giovanna Comins and two great grandchildren, Hannah and Paul Hodska, his niece Betsy Fox, nephew Jim Fox and several cousins.
