Obituary of James McMahan

James (Jimmie) Ray McMahan; a 15 year Resident of Manchester, CT, made his transition from this life, peacefully at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT, surrounded by his family, Monday evening, May 9th, 2016. Born December 3rd, 1940, in Hobart Oklahoma, Jim grew up and attended grade school in Gotebo, OK, before moving to Cordell where he graduated from Cordell High School. Jim attended Oklahoma State University for two years, studying Banking and Finance. He transferred to Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he graduated in 1964. He later continued his education at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX, acquiring his Master's in Business. Jim started working part time while in high school in 1958 at Cordell National Bank, where he advanced to CFO and FDIC Compliance Officer, thru his 25 years of service. Simultaneously he served as President and CEO of the Dill State Bank, in Dill City, OK. Throughout his tenure of banking in Oklahoma, he served as the President of the Young Executive Division of the Oklahoma Banker's Association. He was instrumental in co-authoring legislation with Representative Carl Albert, (Former Speaker of the House) and Congressman Happy Camp (both of Oklahoma), which facilitated the first ATM of the state of Oklahoma, and later throughout the United States. He moved to Davenport, Washington in 1986 to continue his banking career. While in Washington, he introduced small business loans to the Agricultural industry in that state. Among his Civic contributions while living in Cordell, Jim was a Charter member and served as the first President of the Lions Club. He was also a Cub Scout Leader and coached the local Pee-Wees to Preps baseball teams for 9 years. In sharing his faith and conviction he was a long-time Deacon and Sunday School teacher at the First Baptist Church in Cordell, and later served as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church in Davenport, Washington. In addition, he served as Chairman of numerous Town, County and State charitable and civic organizations . . . too many to mention Jim was preceded in death by his Mother, Earlene (Nanny) and Father, Fields (Pappaw) McMahan, and his father-in-law, Leo Haxton. He is survived by his wife Renie, just three months shy of their fifty fourth anniversary; son Dusty and son-in-law John Hart, of Coventry, CT; daughter, Monna Aubertin, of the home; proud Grandfather of Jacob and Nikesa Aubertin and Jared Aubertin and Meranda McCullar, of Lapwai, ID, and Noel Arseneau, of Bristol, CT; 2 great grandchildren, Huntyr and Klayton Aubertin, of Lapwai, ID; his brother Harold McMahan and sister-in-law Nelda, of Midlothian, TX.; mother-in-law Zola Haxton, of Norman, OK; brother-in-law Dan and wife Susan Haxton, Leedey, OK; sister-in-law, Elaine and husband Rusty McPheeters, Newcastle, OK; brother-in-law Perry Neil and wife Bertha Haxton, Francis, OK.; nieces, nephews, family and friends. . . beyond his blood relations, he was the adopted father/grandfather of the Eric Jones Family of Keller, TX; and the Jon Ditlev Family of Lewisville, TX….. And, Grandpa, mentor and babysitter to countless kids of all ages; most recently his "Sherwood Circle Gang" all of whom are now grown and have kids of their own. Jim loved life and wanted all he knew to be as Happy as He. He always tried to leave each person he saw with a smile on their faces. Services will be held Saturday, May 21st, at 10:00 AM, at John Tierney Funeral Home located at 219 West Center Street in Manchester, CT, with Graveside Services to be held at 11:00 AM in Gotebo, Oklahoma, the following Saturday, May 28th.
