Obituary of Joan P. Lorito
Joan Patricia Lorito, 61, resided Manchester, CT died Sunday, May 15, 2016 at her home after her battle with cancer. Born May 5, 1955, Brooklyn, New York a daughter of the late Joan and Rocco Lorito. Followed her birth a twin brother Thomas Lorito.
She attended West Babylon High School and Dix Hills Technical School for nursing; also attended college for a Computer Science degree; enlisted in the United States Navy and Naval Reserves for five and a half years. She was eventually called to duty June of 1978. Completed boot camp in military training and completed "A" school in training as Hospital Corpsmen and surpassed in all aspects of her training. During her Navy career accomplished accelerated advanced ratings from Seamen (E-1) to Hospital Corpsmen HM2 Petty Officer (E-5) honorably discharged from the Navy. Joan's first duty in the Navy was on the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Trauma Unit at the Naval Regional Medical Center, San Diego, CA. Joan also was stationed at Naval Air Station North Island; San Diego, CA both in rate training mobilization readiness, maintained training jackets, assists with physicals. During her time with NAS received a Letter of Appreciation for Outstanding IG Inspection.
Joan's family, predeceased by her parents, twin brother Thomas; surviving family siblings Lorraine Frenna, Rocco Lorito, Madeline O'Halloran, Patrick Lorito, and Nicholas Lorito, their spouses and family. Children Dominick Beadles and Clarissa Beadles, and three grandchildren by daughter Clarissa; Samar, Samira, and Ali Chater. Joan's constant companion at home was Lili her Golden Retriever Dog for almost 13 years.
Where ever Joan resided participated and volunteered both her church and local community. Joan after many moves throughout the United States finally settled in Connecticut. October 1995 settled in Wethersfield, CT. Three years later in August 1999 she moved into her home in Manchester, CT. Joan has made her mark in Manchester Community and St. Bartholomew Church.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 20th, at 10:15 a.m. from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bartholomew Church 736 East Middle Turnpike, Manchester. Burial in Calverton National Cemetery, with military honors, will be at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday from 5-8 p.m. All are invited to a reception, to follow after Mass, in Fr. Hussy Hall at St. Bartholomew.
