Obituary of Anna Vendrillo

Anna (Gonzales) Vendrillo, 90, of Mansfield, Ct. passed away peacefully at Windham Hospital on May 1, 2016 after a short illness. She was born December 5, 1925 in San Leandro, California, the daughter of Anna (LaBorrio) and Manuel Gonzales. Anna met and married Pasquale Vendrillo, of Connecticut, while he was serving in the Army in California, before coming to Connecticut to reside. Anna loved to bake. Her kitchen was filled with the smell of her infamous cinnamon buns. She also made the best pies and fried dough. Her friends and family members always looked forward to tasting her treats. She loved the beach and walking in the sand early in the morning. She rented a cottage at Misquamicut Beach, Rhode Island, each summer inviting her children and grandchildren to stay and enjoy the beach with her. She loved to build sandcastles with the grandchildren. Anna's affection for animals led her to care for and adopt several stray cats. She fed any creature that came into the yard, such as the squirrels and the possums. She enjoyed the woods at Union Pond and spent hours walking there with her dog Sam. She spent time as a Girl Scout Leader as well as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. In her later life Anna loved to care for her grandchildren and share with them her love of sports. She was as avid Yankee, Giants, and UCONN fan. Many of her children and grandchildren have attended Yankee Stadium with her which will leave them with wonderful lasting memories. Anna became a resident of Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehab after suffering a stroke. She quickly became endeared to the staff. She loved to spend time outside listening to the birds singing and watching the clouds. Anna leaves 5 children, Patricia Marquis of Lebanon, Geraldine Huffield of Rockville, Dennis Vendrillo of Tolland, Kathleen Brousseau of Tolland, and Shane Vendrillo of Manchester.
