Paul Catalano

Obituary of Paul J. Catalano

Paul John Catalano, 91, of East Hartford and Jupiter, Florida passed away on March 28, 2016, now reunited with his late wife of 54 years, Josephine (Boccaccio) Catalano. Paul was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1924, the son of Santo and Pauline (Sipala) Catalano. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Brian Quigley of Manchester, Paula and Stephen Curtiss of Coventry, and Deborah and John Barney of Manchester; his grandchildren and their spouses, Kate Quigley and Lynda Sagarese, Lauren and Jesse Odell, Stephen and Jodi Curtiss, Abbey Curtiss, Emily Curtiss, Adam Barney and Matthew Barney and his great-grandchildren, Parker and Hunter Curtiss and Josephine Odell. Paul was predeceased by his brother and sister, Salvatore Catalano and Antoinette Gechas. A Bulkeley High School graduate, Paul joined the Navy in 1943. He served in the American Theater of Operations aboard USS PC-1207 in the South Atlantic and was a proud World War II veteran. After returning from the service and marrying Josephine in 1947, Paul went to work for Western Electric, retiring from the company after 37 years. After retirement, Paul and Josephine traveled extensively in Europe, the Caribbean and South America. Paul also took up golf, playing in an East Hartford Golf Club League in the summer and on many fine Florida courses, after he and Josephine bought their winter home in Jupiter. He was especially proud of his hole-in-one on the 11th hole of the Jupiter Golf Club. On Paul's behalf, we want to thank Margie, Josh, Yvonne and Marilyn for their kindness and professionalism, and to his friends in the dining room for finding the humor in their shared experience. In gratitude for the caring help that Masonicare gave to our family, we ask that, in lieu of flowers, any donations in Paul's honor be made to Masonicare 111 Founders Plaza #200 East Hartford, CT 06108. Paul's daughters want to express special thanks to his dear friend, Larry Phillips, and Paul's brother-in-law John and sister-in-law Pauline, and his nieces Sally and Rosemarie, who all visited him so faithfully in his final years and to the extended Catalano and Boccaccio families.
