Obituary of Charles J. Suntava

Charles J. Suntava, 91, of Manchester, the husband of the late Helen (Kose) Suntava departed life Monday (May 14, 2012) at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born in Bristol, he was the son of Joseph and Rosa Suntava. Charles was a 1939 graduate of Bristol High School where he excelled in Track and Field and held the school record for the mile run. He retired from the Emhart Company in Berlin, CT as a tool and die maker after many years of service. Charles loved to garden, play his harmonica for his family, was an avid reader, and loved UCONN Women's Basketball and the Boston Red Sox. He is survived by his daughter Susan Suntava of Manchester, his sisters Sophie Dawiczyk, Dorothy Riquier and Barbara Suntava, several nieces and nephews and his canine companion KC. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his son Charles "Gerry" Suntava and his wife Carolann, his brother Michael Suntava and sister Mary Johnson. Charles' family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Matthew Friedman for many years of compassionate care and to the Vernon Visiting Nurses Association. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday (May 18th) at 11 am at St. James Church 896 Main St. Manchester, followed by burial in St. James Cemetery, Manchester. The John F. Tierney Funeral Home, Manchester has care of the arrangements.
