Gilbert Carlton Walters, retired Lieutenant Colonel, age 86, of Manchester and formerly of Melbourne FL, passed away quietly on Feb 27, 2016. He was the husband of the late Marguerite F. Walters for 57 years. Born in Newington he was the son of the late Gilbert C. and Ann (Luby) Walters. He was raised in Newington and graduated from Newington High School class of 1947. In addition to his military career Gilbert worked at First National in East Hartford and Allied Distributors in Windsor Locks. He retired to Florida in 1989 where he enjoyed the weather, his home and golf. He leaves behind his daughter Linda W. Morgan of Manchester with whom he made his home, his son Michael Walters of Manchester and 2 granddaughters, Emily Walters of Newport RI and Victoria Walters of Wethersfield, 2 nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his daughter Marie Walters and his brother Richard J. Walters. Thank you to the staff of North Central Hospice & Palliative Care for their compassionate care. A funeral service will be held on Saturday March 5, 10:00 am at the Church of the Assumption, 29 South Adams St., Manchester, CT. A private burial is planned.
