Obituary of Maurice Abran

Maurice Abran, 68, of Windsor Locks, beloved father, grandfather and brother passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Montreal, Canada on March 18, 1947 to the late Louis Abran and Lorraine (Leblanc) Abran, he moved to Springfield and then to Hartford at a young age. He attended Hartford schools, graduating from Hartford Public High School in 1965. After serving in the Air Force for 4 years, he became an IT professional working for several insurance companies, notably CIGNA and Travelers and finishing his career at Aegon USA in Florida. Upon his retirement, he returned to Connecticut to be closer to his family. He is survived by his daughter, Danielle (Abran) Bloom and her husband, Matthew, and their children EJ Wilson and Sydney Bloom of East Granby. His grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy and he devoted much of his time to them. He is also survived by his sisters, Jocelyne Bauman and her husband, John of Meriden, and Ginette Purcell and Craig Hill of Meriden, and his brother Thomas Abran and his wife, Susan of Groton. He is also survived by a nephew, Kevin Riccio, his wife Janice and their children of New Britain. He was an outstanding fastpitch softball player in the Insurance League in the 70's and 80's. Maury was also an avid golfer at Copper Hill Country Club. He loved fishing and in recent years was able to share that passion with his grandchildren. At his request, a private family service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maurice's name to a charity of your choice. The John F.
