Robert K. Schmieg, 79, of Manchester, the husband of the late Betty Lou Schmieg, died Monday December 7, 2015 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was born and grew up in New Britain. Robert was a U.S. Air Force veteran, who served in the Vietnam War, and retired after 20 years of service. In 1976 he went on to work for the Connecticut Department of Corrections, retiring in 1996 from the Hartford Correctional Center as a Lieutenant. He is survived by his son Robert K. Schmieg, Jr. of Glastonbury, formerly of Manchester and a sister Judi Strobel of Minnesota.
