Obituary of Alfred J. Chevrette

Alfred Joseph Chevrette, beloved husband of Lucille Moquin Chevrette, passed away on his 90th birthday, December 11, 2015. Born in Manchester N. H. in 1925, he resided in Manchester, CT after relocating his family to take a position at Pratt & Whitney in 1959. Alfred was a US Navy Veteran of WWII serving mostly in the Pacific. His ship, the USS Halligan DDS 84 earned 8 battle stars before being sunk in the battle of Okinawa. He became the Halligan historian and never missed a reunion. Like many veterans, the war defined him throughout his life. He was quite proud of being a Tin Can Sailor, member of the American Legion Post 102 and the VFW. He retired from Pratt & Whitney in 1989. For many years, Alfred served as an Umpire, Coach and Manchester Commissioner of the International Little League. He also coached Jr. Alumni and Colt League as well as Midget and Peewee basketball. His family is forever amazed at how many youth's lives he touched and how well remembered he remains in Manchester. Alfred loved singing, dancing with Lucille, golfing, and his daily crossword puzzle. He was the inventor of his "secret" and beloved spaghetti sauce recipe and loved to cook. He and Lucille shared a passion for the Boston Red Sox and UCONN women's basketball teams and rarely missed their games. More than anything, "Pops" loved his family. He was the keeper of family photos and created many albums that remain a great treasure to his offspring. Alfred was proud to be a friend of Bill W. Besides his wife of 64 years, he is survived by 5 children, Kate and husband Andre Dumas of East Hartford, Jane Bedell and partner Steve Miller of Avon, Joanna Chevrette of Glastonbury, David Chevrette and wife Sandy of Andover, and Tony Chevrette and partner Monica Botticello of Manchester. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Lisa, Amy, Jessie, Josh, Maura, Michael, Brianna, Anthony and Alyssa and 3 great grandchildren Justin, Taven and Mila, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Nancy Chevrette, granddaughter Lauren Bedell and brother Norbert Chevrette.
