Obituary of Marion C. Moriarty

Marion Lucille Cashion Moriarty passed away on October 13, 2015, after a brief illness. She was born in Manchester, Connecticut on November 2, 1927, the third daughter of Peter and Abigail Cashion, and was a lifelong resident of Manchester. Marion attended Mount St. Joseph Academy and received a bachelor's degree from the College of New Rochelle. She married Francis S. Moriarty, of Wevertown, New York, in June 1951; they celebrated 60 years of marriage just before his death in September 2011. In addition to raising seven children, Marion was a longtime member of the Ladies of St. James and the Manchester Catholic Mothers Circle, and for a number of years she served as a Minister of the Eucharist at St. James Church. She relished life's simple pleasures, such as dining with family and friends, a gift of good chocolate, and fresh flowers. Her oldest daughter, Mary-Beth Moriarty, died in July 2006. Marion is survived by her other children, Kathleen Wirtalla of Manchester, Nancy Roberts of West Hartford, Sheila Waters of Windsor, Steve Moriarty of Willington, Brian Moriarty of Northampton, Massachusetts and Kevin Moriarty of Jeffersonville, Vermont, and eight grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on October 24, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, 29 Adams St. South in Manchester, Connecticut. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at church. There will be no calling hours. Marion's children ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made in her name to Masonicare Hospice, 111 Founders Plaza, Suite 200, East Hartford, Connecticut 06108 or to St. Francis Hospital Palliative Care Team, 114 Woodland Street, Hartford, Connecticut 06105.
