Obituary of Diane St. Martin

Diane (Popillo) St. Martin, 67, of Manchester died peacefully at Hartford Hospital on October 11, 2011 surrounded by her family. Diane was born in Hartford, CT on March 9, 1944 to the late Victor and Clara (Valerie) Popillo. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 42 years, Emery; her two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Troy Hopkins of Coventry, CT and Pamela and Ben Heroux of Middletown, RI.; her brother Richie and late sister-in-law Gloria of Vernon; her twin brother Don and sister-in-law Debbie of Glastonbury; her beloved grandchildren (her sweeties), Meredith & Darcy Hopkins and Easton & Beckett Heroux; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Deanna, as she was known to her family, was a 1962 graduate of Hartford's Bulkeley High School where her yearbook caption read "I talk. I love to talk." Although she worked at Travelers and then First National stores as an Executive Secretary early in her life, the job she was best at was taking care of her family. There was always a sauce simmering on the stove, a fresh baked good on the counter, and an open front door. She loved to shop, have coffee with friends, and vacation up at Weirs Beach, where she was known to play a mean game of skee-ball. You were lucky if she were your partner in Set Back because that meant you'd win. Emery was the lucky one to have her as his partner in life, because together they made the perfect team…and shared a kind of love you don't see everyday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Assumption Church 27 Adams St. South, Manchester on Saturday, October 15th at 9:30 a.m. followed by burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester on Friday from 5-8 pm. For online condolences please visit www.tierneyfuneralhome.com.
