Obituary of Marilyn H. Watt
Marilyn Hepworth Watt, 84, of Manchester, CT, passed away on Sunday, August 16th at Manchester Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Watertown, NY, January 3rd, 1931, to Edward and Mildred Hepworth and lived in Ogensburg, NY and then Binghamton, NY. She graduated from Binghamton Central High and then received her Bachelors (BA) from Keuka College (NY). She fulfilled a four year dream and hitchhiked for 3 months through Great Britain and Europe, staying in youth hostels and homes of people she met. She then went to live in Manhattan with college classmates to enjoy the city and worked at NYU Bellevue Medical Center as a Secretary, and continued her education with a Master's degree in Psychiatric Social Work at Simmons College School of Social Work.
Marilyn married and became a stay-at-home Mother before returning to work in the Manchester School System as a School Social Worker. She worked for Head Start, then in the elementary schools at Robertson, Keeney and Martin. While at Head Start, she was a member of the Manchester Community Services Council and was involved with starting the Manchester Early Learning Center as a subsidized preschool daycare.
After retirement she traveled extensively in Africa and Asia. She was a life-long member of the Little Flowers of Jesus Mother's Circle, directed a mixed-singles golf group, loved to play duplicate bridge, and enjoyed going to the theatre, and movies with her wonderful friends.
Most of all, enjoyed any and all time with her family. She is survived by her daughters, Marge and husband Daryl Coach, Sally and husband Chris Kelley, Judy, and sons James and wife Tracy, and Jeff and wife Valerie. Grandchildren Dustin Jason, Peter and David Coach, Kora Gilbert (Drew) and Blake Kelley, Nikki and Taylor Ponticelli, Ryan and Joseph Watt, Kelly Carini (Keith), Melissa Battles (Tim), and Timothy Watt. Also, her sister-in-law Marie Hepworth, many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her brother John Hepworth, and daughters Nancy and Katherine Watt.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 22nd at St. James Church, 896 Main St., Manchester at 11am. Family and friends may pay respects at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home (219 West Center St., Manchester) on Friday, August 21st from 4-8pm.
