Obituary of Edward S. Adamy

Edward Samuel Adamy, Sr., 89 of Manchester passed away in the home he built, early August 5, 2015. He was born January 24, 1926 in Manchester, son of the late John and Katherine Adamy. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Marjorie Lautenbach Adamy; his daughter Sharon Flavell Rickard and her husband Ron of Manchester, his son Edward Samuel Adamy, Jr. and his wife Lois of Prospect, KY, his son Walter John Adamy Sr. and his wife Jenny of Mechanicsburg, PA, and six favorite grandchildren Scott Rickard, Amanda Rickard, Sam Adamy III and his wife Sarah, Rebecca Adamy Jones and her husband Bill, Clayton Adamy, Walter John Adamy Jr. and great-grandchildren Edward S. Adamy IV and Liam C. Jones. He is also survived by his brother Arthur Adamy and his wife Alice of Manchester, and several nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his siblings Helen Adamy Kasputis, Walter Adamy and Clifford Adamy. Ed graduated from Manchester High School in 1943 and UCONN in 1949. WWII interrupted his studies and he served in the U.S. Army's Fighting 69th Infantry Division. Upon graduation he built and owned Adamy's Esso at the Manchester Green. In the years that followed Ed built several homes and worked on countless additions and renovations, for friends and family, all in the midst of a 30 year career at Hamilton Standard where he was an integral part in the development of the Apollo Space Suit. Though Ed retired, he never stopped working. He enjoyed the time he spent volunteering as a coach of numerous sports and working at the town's two ski slopes, teaching children how to ride a rope tow. A lifelong sports enthusiast his favorite teams included the Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots and UCONN. He was a tireless supporter of any activity his children and grandchildren were involved with. Ed enjoyed working out and staying physically and mentally fit. Above all Ed loved his family and always kept an open door. Calling hours will be held at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester, on Friday August 7th from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday August 8th at 11:00 a.m. followed by burial with military honors in East Cemetery, Manchester.
