Obituary of Mary Lawler

Mary Ann Lawler, 77, of Manchester, CT, passed away at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford on July 19, 2015. She was born Mary Ann Cote, the daughter of the late Rene and Charlotte Cote, in Hartford, where she graduated from Holy Trinity High School. She was married to Joseph P. Lawler for over 50 years, until his passing in 2013. Mary worked for Aetna Insurance Company, was a dedicated homemaker for many years, and worked for the Manchester Public School system and the Manchester Senior Center. She retired from the Senior Center in 2003. Mary Ann was actively involved in many organizations, including the Little Flower of Jesus Mothers Circle, St. James Parish, and the Manchester Jaycee Wives, of which she was president from 1974-75. Most recently, she volunteered at the Manchester Historical Society. She enjoyed needlework, crocheting, and other craft projects, which she passed on to her granddaughters. Mary Ann was still active in the water walking class at the Manchester Recreation Department. She was a cutthroat gin rummy player and loved puzzles and Jeopardy. She was a vibrant raconteur, always ready to tell stories about her travels and her blessed life with her husband, family, and friends. Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Deborah Lawler Sharp; her son, Stephen L. Lawler; her daughter-in-law, AnnMarie Lawler; and four beautiful grandchildren: Richard and Simone Sharp and Kaely and Natalie Lawler; as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends. The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 24 at 9:15 a.m. from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home (219 West Center St., Manchester) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. James Church (896 Main St., Manchester), followed by a burial in East Cemetery. Family and friends may pay respects at the funeral home on Thursday, July 23, from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Manchester Area Conference of Churches, P.O.
