Obituary of Leslie C. Noyes

SMSgt. Leslie C Noyes USAF Retired, 96 of Manchester, died Wednesday, April 29 at his home. Born September 7, 1918, in Whitefield, Maine, son of Henry and Susie Noyes, he spent most of his childhood years in Jefferson and North Jefferson Maine. During WW II he served (through D-Day) in England as an aircraft electrician with the 56th Fighter Group of the Army Air Corp (later the United States Air Force). He retired from active duty as a Senior Master Sargent in 1961 and continued in the reserves for ten more years. Serving his country was something he was very proud of. He was a loyal Red Sox fan who stood behind them and waited patiently for them to win the pennant again after their 1918 win. He wore his Red Sox suspenders proudly most everyday! An avid fisherman, he spent many days with a pole in his hands and passed on his knowledge and stories to anyone ready to listen and learn. He was a Mason for almost 60 years belonging to several lodges and rising to Master and Past Master while active in them. In the decade before his retirement he was self employed with his partner Paul Crowley in the HVAC business. He installed the refrigeration system for the ice at the Hartford Civic Center and was truly the first person to skate on the ice as he tweaked the system for the perfect ice. Always liking the game of hockey he became a Hartford Whalers fan and was disappointed to see them go after years of being a season ticket holder. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Merrill and her husband John, and Audrey Quimby and her husband Robert with whom he made his home for the past two years. His grandchildren Michael Merrill (Christine), Roberta Merrill, Pauline Merrill, Jennifer Miller (Kyle), Michelle Smith (Scott), Joseph Peck (Angie), Steven Quimby, and Emily Quimby; his great-grandchildren Alyssa and Alexis Merrill, Margaret Miller, Shane and Dean Smith, and Samuel Peck. He was also "Uncle Leslie" to many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Florence, his daughter Margaret, a brother, Joseph and two sisters, Doris Jewett and Susie Roberts. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday May 3, 2015 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral service, with full military honors, will be held on Monday May 4, 2015, 11:00 a.m at the John F.
