Obituary of Nancy S Gay

Nancy (Slattery) Gay of Windsor, CT passed away on February 15, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Hartford on April 1, 1935. She was predeceased by her parents, John O. Slattery and Anna Genevieve (Pfeiffer) Slattery and her sister Jean P. Slattery. Nancy was the beloved wife of MG David W. Gay, the former Adjutant General. They were married in Hartford on September 30, 1961. Nancy attended Weaver High School and Hillyard College. She was employed as a legal secretary for several prominent law firms. After her children were grown, she returned to the workforce with the Defense Contracting Agency in East Hartford. Nancy is survived by her son David and his wife Nancy of Virginia Beach, VA, her daughter Jennifer Lammon and her husband Scott of Latham, NY and her son Stephen and his wife Mary of Newington, CT. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, Emily of Virginia Beach, VA, Sara, Kathryn, Anna and Matthew Lammon of Latham, NY and Caitlin, Caroline and Shannah of Newington, CT. She is also survived by many cousins of the Slattery and Pfeiffer families. A long time resident of Manchester, Nancy was a member of the St. James Mother's Circle and the Manchester Women's Club. She moved to Windsor, in 2001, where she was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Poquonock, CT. She was a member of the Ballymeade Book Club, the Ballymeade Social Committee and a member of the Windsor Women's Club. She enjoyed travelling, gardening, and babysitting her grandchildren. She loved it when the children happily exclaimed, "It's a Mimi day!" For eight years, Nancy was a member of the Adjutant General's Wives Association, attending the annual conference in Washington D.C. and semi-annual conferences in various cities throughout the United States. The Association focused on Family Support Activities for Guardsmen and those deployed throughout the world. She performed those same functions for the Connecticut National Guard Family Support Team and hosted several activities on their behalf. Nancy enjoyed many years with the Connecticut State Militia Units and in particular, the First Company Governor's Foot and Horse Guards. Events included several Inaugurals, receptions at the Governor's Mansion, numerous parades and military ceremonies. Nancy had a deep love and concern for the military members of Connecticut and their families. Nancy will be missed by all who knew her especially her family. She had a genuine love for people and a caring and giving spirit. Nancy's family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Manchester Memorial hospital and North Central Hospice and Palliative Care for the care and compassion given to Nancy during her brief illness especially by Judy and Michelle. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 19th at 9:45 a.m. from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. James Church, 896 Main Street, Manchester at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial in the Military Section of East Cemetery.
