Obituary of Michael Nagle
Michael Joseph Nagle, 80, of Surfside Beach, SC formerly East Hartford, CT passed away, peacefully, at home on March 9, 2012. He was born on May 23, 1931 in Rathmore, Headford, Co. Kerry, Ireland to the late John and Ellen (McCarthy) Nagle. He was preceded in death by siblings Eileen O'Connell, Patrick, Kathleen, Jeremiah, Daniel and James.
Michael immigrated to the USA in 1955 seeking a better life. He proudly served in the US Army and then met and married the love of his life, Johanna (Carey), who herself immigrated from Killorglin, Co. Kerry, Ireland. They settled in East Hartford, CT and raised five children.
Michael worked for Southern New England Telephone Company until he retired, in 1993, after 38 years. He was a member of the "Telephone Pioneers", the St. Rose Men's Club as well as a lifetime member of the Irish American Home Society of Glastonbury, CT. He and his wife retired to Surfside Beach, SC in 1999 where he took a part time job working security for Wal-Mart.
Michael loved to take walks on the beach and people watch. He really loved to dance and listen to Irish music. Michael, along with his wife, was always the first one up on the dance floor and the last one off whenever he heard an old time waltz. He enjoyed rooting for the UCONN Huskies basketball team as well as visiting with his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed a good cup of tea along with a warm piece of his wife's homemade Irish Bread.
Through the years, Michael's greatest strength came from his strong faith. He was a member of St. Rose Church, East Hartford, CT as well as St. Michael Catholic Church, Garden City, SC.
Michael is survived by his wife Johanna; his son John and wife Donna of East Hampton, CT; his daughter Helen and husband Jeff Silveira and their daughter Ally of Raynham, MA; his son Patrick and wife Elissa and their twin daughters Olivia and Julia of Manchester, CT; his daughter Kathleen Pavan and her daughter Taylor of South Windsor, CT; his son Daniel and wife Karin and their daughter Emma of South Windsor, CT; his sister Sr. Emilie Nagle, Infant Jesus Order, Co.
