Alena Patricia (Faraci) Cowen, 93, presently of Manchester, longtime resident of East Hartford and South Windsor, originally of Oyster Bay, Long Island, died during the early hours of March 12, 2012. Alena was born to Elizabeth (Martini) Faraci and Dominic Faraci of Oyster Bay on October 9, 1918 and had one dear sister, Elizabeth DeSalvo and four brothers, James, Charles, Albert and William all deceased. Beloved wife to the late Kenneth W. Cowen, (owner of the former Cowen Distributors); loving mother to Elaine D. Reynolds of Manchester; devoted grandmother to Loralyn Lee Reynolds and dear aunt to Goddaughter, Diana Faraci of Oyster Bay, as well as to other nieces and nephews. Alena attended Saint Dominic's School in Oyster Bay and later graduated as a registered nurse from Saint Vincent's Hospital in New York City, which helped to prepare her for a life of caring for and giving to others. She also worked with her husband, Kenneth, to establish their business. Private Service will be held at a later date at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood on Long Island. Prayers only are requested. Special thanks are extended to dear longtime friends Lauren and new friend, Laura, Alena's Manchester Manor roommate, to the Manchester Manor nursing staff, especially Danneth and to the Visiting Nurses of Vernon Hospice staff, each of whom did much to provide comfort and support during Alena's final days.
