Shirley Alice Anderson, 90, of Vernon met her maker on Saturday, November 22, 2014. Shirley went peacefully at Doreen and Gary Caron's house in Ellington, CT surrounded by loved ones. Shirley left a lasting impression on her family, friends and acquaintances. She enjoyed spending time with family as "Grandma" and "Grandma Shirley" and her beloved cat Yoffee. Her years were filled with much love, caring, and kindness. Shirley was a wonderful and caring woman, always the first to lend a hand to anyone in need. Shirley lived a long and happy life and was cherished by all who had the pleasure to know her. Shirley was blessed to share 71 years of marriage with the love of her life and best friend Iver. Shirley worked at Pratt and Whitney for 12 years and she then started the Village Lantern beauty salon in Manchester followed by Village Bridal of Vernon for 25 years. Shirley was the daughter of the late James Gibson and Doris Therrien. She was predeceased by two sisters, Dotty Perrett and Arline Bransfield and is survived by her sister Verna Carr. Born in Hartford and together with her husband Iver, she raised her family in Manchester, CT. She is survived by her four children, Robert G. Anderson and his wife Laura of Coppell, TX, Patricia Gentilcore and her husband Jeff of Manchester, Doreen Caron and her husband Gary of Ellington, and James G. Anderson and his wife Carol of Hamilton, MA., 11 grandchildren Bridget Morgan, Christopher Anderson, Shaun Anderson, Donna Suitter, Mark Gentilcore, Todd Gentilcore, Michael Caron, Jonathan Caron, Gregory Caron, James Anderson Jr., and Casey Anderson. She is also survived by 14 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff at Vernon Manor as well as the hospice care team from VNHSC for the loving care shown to Shirley. Family and Friends are warmly invited to calling hours on Monday November 24 from 4-8 p.m. at John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St., Manchester, CT. Funeral services will be held Tuesday November 25 at 10 a.m. at the Bolton United Methodist Church, 1041 Boston Turnpike, Bolton CT, burial to follow at Hillstown Cemetery, 180 Hillstown Rd., Manchester.
