Obituary of Beatrice Skinner
Beatrice M. Skinner, 83, of Hanover, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at Hanover Terrace in Hanover, NH. She was born in Manchester, CT on October 2, 1931, the eldest child of Arthur and Beatrice McGowan, both having emigrated from Ireland.
Betty was a 1949 graduate of Manchester High School, Manchester, CT After graduation, she married Duane Skinner, of Coventry, CT before he was deployed to Germany during the Korean Conflict. Betty worked for a variety of organizations, including Watkins Bros of Manchester, and H+B Tool in South Windsor, CT She enjoyed boating and dancing with her best friend and husband, Duane, and enjoyed playing Canasta with friends on the internet.
Duane and his two best friends married three local girls, and all maintained their lifelong friendship. The three newlywed wives lived together in Virginia near Fort Lee Army Base, while their husbands served overseas.
Her beloved husband, Duane, passed away on July 5, 2005. Her parents, her brother Arthur, and his twin sister Audrey, predeceased her. She is survived by a sister, Eileen Pelletier (Patrick) of W. Peru, Maine, son Michael Skinner (Pamela) of Plainfield, NH, and daughter Pamela (Jim Williams), of White River Junction, VT; grandsons Jeffrey Skinner, of Coventry, CT, David Fries, of Rocky Hill, CT, Colin Skinner, of Meriden, NH, and Ryan Skinner, of South Royalton, VT; great grandchildren Samuel, Evan, and Evelyn; and many nephews and nieces. She will be laid to rest in the family plot at Manchester, CT.
A service will be held at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street Manchester, CT, on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at 11:00 am, followed by a burial at St. James Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
