Winifred Bonner Connolly passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 4, 2014. She was born on January 4, 1927, the daughter of the late Charles and Sheila Bonner in Balinacurry, County Donegal, Ireland. She emigrated to NYC in 1948. In 1954, she married the love of her life, Harry "Joe" Connolly and lived the next 60 years in Manchester, CT. One of her proudest moments was when she became a US citizen. "Winnie" was a spirited, hard-working woman that devoted her life to her family. In addition to her husband Joe, she is survived by her six children, Brendan and his wife, Michelle, of Severna Park, MD; Mary Ledwith and her husband, Kevin, of Yardley, PA; Sheila Gilligan and her husband, Kevin, of Westford, MA; Erin Connolly of Manchester; Michael and his wife, Jacqui, of Manchester; and John and his wife, Taryll, of Manchester. Winnie also leaves her twelve beloved grandchildren Sean, Patrick, Jay, Caitlin, Timothy, Meghan, Shannon, Michael, Matthew, Kevin, Katie and Allison. Winnie was predeceased by her three sisters, Ann, Mary and Bridget and her five brothers Patrick, James, John, Charles and Michael. Winnie was employed at Pratt and Whitney for 25 years and retired in 1991. She enjoyed trips to Ireland, Hawaii, Florida, the Bahamas, New York City and Fenway Park. She loved simple pleasures, such as Sunday afternoon dinners, watching old movies, Friday hair appointments, sipping a good cup of tea and telling great Irish tales to her children and grandchildren. The family would like to extend a thank you to the team from Visiting Nurse and Health Services, of Vernon, CT and to the staff at Manchester Memorial Hospital. They are very grateful for the spiritual support given by Father Michael Casey and Father Lou Cremonie. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday (10/7) from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (10/8) beginning at 10:45 from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 at St. James Church 896 Main St. Manchester. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery 368 Broad St. Manchester. Donations may be made to St. James School Foundation, where her six children attended , P.O. Box 254 Manchester, CT 06045.
