I remember Mrs. Toomey well. She was my 6th grade permanent substitute teacher at Hollister Street School. It was probably in 1949; I'm 77 now. We weren't a bad class - just totatlly out of control - and Mrs. Toomey arrived with new ideas, strict rules, and a determination to teach. I learned more that year than in 6 previous years and I actually enjoyed it.
A long time resident of Manchester but living in Texas now, I sometimes check the Manchester news and Mrs. Toomey's name brought back many memories. She was most definitely the best teacher I have ever experienced.
I needed to share this memory and wish to express my condolences to her family and friends.

I graduated Manchester High School in 1964. Mrs. Toomey was my favorite high school teacher. She made learning geometry and algebra easy for me to understand and I did well in her classes. I am now 68 years old and I can still see her walking into class and giving me a big smile. I also became a teacher and Mrs. Toomey was a guiding factor. Rest in Peace Mrs. Toomey. You will always have a warm place in my heart and memories. Your children have a lot to be proud of.
