Joseph R. Robinson, 53, of Andover, died unexpectedly on Wednesday August 27th. He was the husband of Robin Weir Robinson, a decorator with the former Paul's Paint and currently the J. Boyle Company. Joe worked for 24 years at St. James Church (and while linked the Church of the Assumption) in Manchester. Living across the street from St. James he was able to watch over his beloved church, especially when a storm was coming. He wanted St. James to look her very best on Mother's Day, Holidays, and worked hard cleaning the inside and doing the lawns. We called him God's Maintenance Man. Joe would go up to the altar at the start of his work day the same way every morning. He'd say his good morning to the important people in his life that have passed. Joe was good with his hands, could fix any machine. He built a country store on one end of his property and an addition on his house in Andover, CT, almost single handed. Joe was a good man, a gentle man, helped others, a mentor to the younger workers. A truly good man, his legacy to the world. A loving father and son, he is survived by his children Anthony, Adam, and Amitee Robinson all of Andover, and his mother Phyllis (Gates) Wallace and her husband Jeffrey of Manchester. He is also survived by his brother Sean O'Brien and his wife Sandra Mella O'Brien of Manchester, his brother Robert Robinson and his wife Kerry of South Windsor, his nephews and niece Joseph Robinson, Jason Robinson and Jordan Robinson all of South Windsor whom Joe loved dearly and had a special place in Joe's heart. He is also survived by his Uncle Richard Gates and Aunt Barbara Gates of Enfield, many cousins, some of whom he grew up with spending many Sundays at his Gramma Gates' kitchen table. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Walter Weir of Andover. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday (9/4) at 11:00am at the Church of the Assumption, 29 Adams St. South, Manchester. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
