Obituary of Lionel Nadeau

Lionel J. "Len" Nadeau died at home on July 7, 2014; he was 93. Len was born and grew up in Lowell, MA. He briefly attended Boston College before enlisting in the US Army during WWII. Len rose to the rank of Master Sergeant. After his service, Len moved to Hartford and married Dorothea Rigg in 1946, spending most of their lives together in Manchester, CT. Len spent a very long career with the State of CT Department of Child and Family Services, most notably as a Fair Hearings officer and eventually headed that department. After retirement, Len and Dorothea moved to Ft. Myers, FL where they lived happily for over 20 years before returning to Manchester in 2006. Len was known for his charming demeanor and care for others. He loved puns and music - in fact he was a well-known local singer in his youth. He was an active participant in the Greater Hartford Toys for Tots campaign and helped manage that annual effort for several years. While in Ft Myers, he donated his time and lovely speaking voice to a radio news service that brought local and national news to the blind. Len leaves his beloved wife, Dorothea, and his children Linda Nadeau, Charles Nadeau, Philip Nadeau, and Laura Nadeau. Family and friends may call at the John F Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street, Manchester, CT 06040 on Sunday (July 13th) at 10:00-12:00.
