Obituary of Barbara Murphy
Barbara W. Murphy, of Manchester, the wife of 62 years to Raymond J. Murphy died peacefully Monday (February 20, 2012) at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Norwich, she had lived in Manchester for many years. She received her Master's degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Connecticut State University, retired as an elementary teacher from the Manchester Board of Education after 32 years of service and also taught music at the Jamoke Academy in Hartford. For many years Barbara a member of the Manchester Jaycees, was the organist at St. Bridget and St. Bartholomew Churches in Manchester, was a member of the Manchester Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and most recently was the Choir Director and Organist at Memorial Baptist Church in Hartford. As she said recently "I'm just a little girl who loves music." Besides her loving and devoted husband she is survived by her children and grandchildren who brought tremendous joy to her life, Rick Murphy and his wife Donna of Bloomfield, Jim Murphy and his wife Donna of Coventry, Nancy Murphy Kalinowski and her husband John of Portland, Kathleen Murphy Larsen and her loving companion Miguel Hernandez of Glastonbury, and Maureen Murphy Schobert and her husband Chuck of Bradenton, FL; and her 10 grandchildren to whom she was an excellent, devoted grandmother, Kara Lee, Sarah, Owen, Connor, Jason, Melina, Shelby, Christopher, Kim and Kelsey. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, her brother Donald and his wife Dru of Barre, VT and several nieces and nephews. Barbara's family would like to offer a special thanks to her wonderful caregivers from Heim Home Health, LLC. Funeral service will be held on Friday (February 24th) at 10:00 am at Memorial Baptist Church 142 Fairfield Ave. Hartford, CT. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
