Obituary of Lawrence E. Kowalyshyn

Lawrence Edward "Larry" Kowalyshyn, of Bolton, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2014, surrounded by his family and listening to his favorite Patsy Cline CD. He was born on July 16, 1932 in Willington, Connecticut, a son of the late Mary (Gladzys) and John Kowalyshyn. He was married to Mary Sullivan. He is survived by his children: Kathleen Kowalyshyn, Kevin Kowalyshyn and his wife, Jennifer, James Kowalyshyn and his wife, Anne, and Joanne Briggs and her husband, Ronald. He had four grandchildren: Ryan Hence, Daniel Kaplan, Brianna Lawton and Dylan Briggs, and three great grandchildren: Benjamin Hence, Alyssa Howat and Hailey Lawton. Larry was predeceased by his brother, Stephen and his sister, Anna Furness. He leaves his brother, John Kowalyshyn, as well as many nieces and nephews. Larry grew up on the family farm and was an avid farmer until his last tomato season this past summer. On a family trip to Italy, he would insist upon stopping alongside farms to see the Tuscan growing techniques. He would deliver home-grown vegetables to family and friends each year. He graduated from Windham High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Larry was employed by the Chandler Evans Company for over 40 years. He loved the Yankees and loved hating the Red Sox. He coached Little League and put the fanatic in fan during his sons' athletic activities. He never missed a game. Larry excelled in bowling and he won many, many trophies. Larry loved cutting, chopping, splitting, stacking, and burning wood which he continued to do into his 70s. His own sons couldn't keep up with him. He was a voracious reader. Larry loved playing cards and going on trips with the Bolton Seniors. Funeral service with military honors will be held on Thursday (May 8th) at 6:30 p.m. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center Street Manchester, CT. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Autism Services & Resources of Connecticut, 101 North Plains Industrial Road, Wallingford, CT 06492.
