Bridget M. (Knightly) 'Bridie' Donovan 90, of Manchester CT died on April 12, 2014 at Manchester Manor. She was born January 1924 in Castlemaine, Co Kerry Ireland. She was predeceased by Frank her husband of 35 years. She lived in Manchester for over 60 years, retiring from Southern New England Telephone Company. Bridie was active in local politics. A member of the Irish American Home Society and past marshal for the Manchester contingent of the annual ST. Patrick's Day parade in Hartford. She was a member of St. Bartholomew Church in Manchester. She immigrated in1950 to Philadelphia PA in1950, later moving Hartford where she met and married her beloved husband Frank. Bridie studied and received an Associate degree from Manchester Community College and her BA from Eastern Connecticut University. She is survived by several nieces and a nephew in Ireland along with many close relatives and friends in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Florida. The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff at Manchester Manor for their care and compassion to Bridie. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday (April 22nd) at 9:15 a.m. from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Bartholomew Church 45 Ludlow Road, Manchester, followed by burial in St. James Cemetery.
