Obituary of John Walters
John J. Walters, 89, of East Hartford, the beloved husband of 53 years to Valerie (McSherry) Walters died Wednesday (February 8, 2012) at St. Francis Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Tom and Rose Doyle. John was a US Army veteran of World War II, a communicant of St. Rose Church, and a member of the Cigna Retirement Club. He had retired as an accountant from Cigna Corporation in 1986 after 43 years of service and from Royal Insurance in 1989. Besides his wife he is survived by his children Paul Joseph Walters of Arizona, Michelle Fournier and her husband Edward of Hebron; his grandchildren Michael Joseph Walters, and Benjamin, Rachel and Julia Fournier; his brother-in-law Gervais McSherry and his wife Bernadette of Lurgan, County Armagh, Northern Ireland, his sister-in-law Juleen Tune of Wisconsin, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Saturday (February 11th) at 9:15 am from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Isaac-Jogues Church 1 Community St. East Hartford, followed by burial with military honors in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
