Obituary of Arnold Olsen

Arnold Olsen, 85, the beloved husband of the late Joan (Corriveau) Olsen died on Thursday (January 30, 2014) at Glastonbury Health Care Center. Arnold was born in Ossining, NY, the son of Jack and Hjordis (Gundersen) Olsen and had lived in East Hartford for over fifty years before moving to Glastonbury. Arnold served in the US Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was retired from the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades where his talents included the inside restoration of the Mark Twain House and the Good Speed Opera House, gold leafing of the dome at the State Capital in addition to working in many landmark buildings in the Hartford area. His other talents included oil painting, rosemaling and wood carving. He was a lifetime member of the Sons of Norway and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his children and their spouses Hans and Denise Olsen of Colchester, Mark and Loren Olsen of Colchester and Julie and Collin Fluckiger of Tolland; his grandchildren Hunter and Hannah Olsen, Molly and Erik Olsen, Bryan Sullivan and Colleen and Paige Fluckiger, Shane Olsen, Amy Spencer, Joe and Matt McCann; his great grandchildren Isaac, Evan, Mason and Jaxson and his sister Eleanor Backbom of East Hartford. Arnold was also predeceased by his son Carl Olsen. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester on Saturday, February 8th from 12:00 - 2:00. Burial in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford, with full military honors, will take place at a later date.
