George served his community as an officer in the Manchester Police Auxiliary, and as Treasurer of the Hartford Chapters of the American Heart Association and the March of Dimes. George was also a co-founder of the Manchester Swim Club. For over a decade, George placed the markers and flags on the gravesites of veterans in East Cemetery in preparation for Memorial Day, assisted by his children. George also loved to dance and taught ballroom dancing prior to World War II. Always physically active, George enjoyed a good long walk or swim.
