Obituary of Don Guinan MD
Don A. Guinan, M.D., 91, of Manchester, the husband of Patricia (Hayes) Guinan died Monday, January 27, 2014 at home surrounded by his family.
Born in Northampton, MA October 24, 1922, he was the son of the late William F. and Carolyn (Goodwin) Guinan. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served as a Hospital Corpsman during World War II at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, N.H. and as Chief Medical Officer Destroyer Division 12 during the Korean War. He graduated from Deerfield Academy, received his B.S. from Brown University in 1945, was a member of the National Fraternity of Alpha Delta Phi and was a 1948 graduate of the University of Vermont College of Medicine and was a member of the Nu Sigma Nu Medical Fraternity. He was also a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children Elizabeth Martin and her husband Tim, Don Guinan Jr. and his wife Joanna, William Patrick Guinan, Patricia Vicki and her husband Al, John Guinan and his wife Mary, and his daughter-in-law Brigid Guinan all of Manchester; his grandchildren Becky, Liz, Callum, Ella, Billy, Nathan, Bruce, Cadi, James, Sera, Colleen and Maggie; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Bruce D. Guinan and his brother William F. Guinan.
Funeral service will be private. The John F. Tierney Funeral Home, Manchester has care of the arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association
