Obituary of Elaine M. Sweet

Elaine Margaret (Gilmore) Sweet, of Manchester, died Tuesday (January 7, 2014) at Fenwood Nursing Home, Manchester. Born March 30, 1929 in New Haven, daughter of the late Richard J. Gilmore and Letitia (Kane) Gilmore. She was predeceased by her husband George A. Sweet, and her sister, Ruth C. Mahoney. She attended schools in New Haven, and was employed by Blue Cross of Connecticut before moving to Manchester in 1956. After 37 years, she retired from the American Red Cross serving as a branch office Manager. She is survived by one son, Richard G. Sweet and his wife, Jeannine, of Supply, North Carolina, two grandsons, Richard Jr. and Brian, and two great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter, also her dear friend, Doreen Sterne and many friends and associates. She was a member of Assumption Church since 1956 and served her Lord on numerous committees and support programs. She was also a volunteer and founding member of the Connecticut Unit, American Red Cross Retirees, the Senior Center, MCC Active Adults, and the Bushnell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday (January 13, 2014) at Assumption Church 27 Adams St. South, Manchester with burial in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 1:00-5:00 p.m .
